Where is your program located?

Turn-About Ranch is located in Escalante, Utah, (a small ranching town along the Escalante River in south-central Utah). We are in the middle of some of the most beautiful and unique land in North America — a great environment for students to experience and learn from.

The ranch is located next to the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and national forest, and is minutes away from Capitol Reef National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and several state parks.

What type(s) of students is your program prepared to serve?

Turn-About Ranch is a year-round school that accepts students ages 13-17 who are struggling with a range of emotional and behavioral issues, including (but not limited to) depression, ADD/ADHD, substance abuse/addiction, defiance, rebellion, low self-esteem and poor academic performance.

Do any disorders or issues disqualify a student from enrolling in your school?

Students who meet any of the following criteria would not be appropriate for treatment at Turn-About Ranch:

  • Aggressive behaviors that could put other students or staff at risk
  • Serious active eating disorder
  • Active suicide attempts
  • Sexual perpetrator behaviors
  • Students whose psychotropic medication regimen is not stable
  • Psychotic behaviors


How much will tuition cost?

Because we offer comprehensive and highly individualized services, costs associated with enrolling in Turn-About Ranch depend upon a number of personal factors, including (but not necessarily limited to) anticipated length of stay and the nature and severity of the issues the child is struggling to overcome.

Our admissions advisors will be happy to work with you to develop a detailed financial picture based upon your family's unique needs.

Does your school provide financing options?

Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. If you're interested in determining if you would qualify for a private loan, we work with an independent loan organization called Clark Behavioral Health Financing. Loans can cover tuition, enrollment fees and miscellaneous expenses including transportation to and from the program.

CBHF features multiple loan products with competitive rates, and a possible deferral of interest for up to 6 months with no prepayment penalties or cancellation fees. Learn more about financing options.

Will my child be working with qualified and licensed professionals?

Absolutely! In addition to being supremely talented, dedicated and experienced, the members of our academic, clinical and administrative teams hold a range of credentials, licenses and certifications.

Our residential treatment program has been providing help for troubled teens and their families for nearly 20 years. We have master's-level and bachelor's-level counselors along with non-professional staff who have been specially trained to work with struggling youth in an innovative and dynamic therapeutic environment

How long will my child need to remain at Turn-About Ranch?

An average length of stay at Turn-About Ranch is 100 days — but the ideal enrollment period for your child will vary depending upon a comprehensive assessment of his or her specific history, strengths and needs.

How will Turn-About Ranch meet my child's academic needs?

Our academic program consists of a functioning high school and middle school, both of which are fully accredited through the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. The educational program at Turn-About Ranch is individualized for each student, and integrates real-life experiences into the curriculum. What types of therapeutic/clinical support will my child receive?

Comprehensive therapeutic services at Turn-About Ranch are provided via a team approach that features daily therapy through the ranch environment. The dedicated members of our treatment team will work with your child (and you) via individual, group, and family therapy sessions; weekly parent calls; and conducting mid-term and graduation visits with families.

We also offer an innovative and highly effective equine therapy program.

What is a typical day like for Turn-About Ranch students?

Life on the ranch is highly structured, closely supervised and challenging in the most beneficial and productive ways. Ranch students perform chores (we are an actual working ranch, after all), participate in therapeutic activities, complete academic work and enjoy a range of outdoor activities.

Students learn to work together with peers and adults, work smart and use time productively. They learn what it really means to be responsible, the importance of consistency, respect for life, and the impact they have on others

How much involvement will I have in my child's experience at your program?

Your involvement is essential to your child's success, and our program encourages you to remain an active positive presence in his life.

In addition to regular reports from the school and weekly phone conversations with Turn-About Ranch staff members, you will also be able to stay connected with you child via our secure online Parent Checkin program.

How do you prepare students (and families) for life after they leave your program?

We work closely with all students and parents to prepare detailed plans to support our students' continued successes after they complete our program and return home. Transition planning begins the day your child arrives at the ranch, and involves a strong family component.
